   Launch or move

   If we built your site, hosting is set up before launch and there is nothing for you to do. If it lives elsewhere, we take a full copy, move it, check every page and form on the new hosting, then point your domain at it, keeping the old copy live until the switch is confirmed.

   Set the baseline

   To start, we take a backup, run the updates, fix anything obviously broken, note how fast the site loads on a phone, and switch on monitoring. You get a short plain-English note of what we found and what we changed.

   Look after it every month

   Updates, backups, monitoring, checks and your edits, month after month. If something needs a decision from you, like a plugin that has been abandoned or a form that should change, we tell you before we act.

Moving an existing site is a small job once we have access to your domain and current hosting. The domain switch itself can take some hours to settle, so we do it at a quiet time and keep the old copy running until the new one is confirmed. If we're building your site, hosting is set up as part of the build and the care plan starts on launch day, with the first year included on the Business package. The plan runs month to month and you can stop at the end of any paid month; there's no long contract.

• Against the cheap shared host

  The headline price on shared hosting is often a first-year rate, and what you get for it is a control panel and a support ticket queue. Nobody there is checking your site is up, patched or fast. On a care plan, someone is, every month, and you know their name.

• Against a DIY builder subscription

  Wix, Squarespace and similar builders bundle hosting into the monthly fee, but the site only runs on their platform, so leaving means starting again. On a care plan the site, the domain and the content are yours; cancel and you take all of it with you.

• Against the web guy who's gone quiet

  Plenty of trades have a site built by a mate or a freelancer who has moved on, with the hosting and domain registered in someone else's name. We put the domain in your name, write down where everything lives, and you always have a number to ring.

• Against leaving it alone

  A site nobody touches doesn't stay the same. Software goes out of date, forms stop sending without telling anyone, and a slow or hacked site loses ground on Google. The plan exists so small problems are fixed while they're still small.
